Sickness &
Distress:
David Bertch: David was at Grand Conclave this past week and was
doing fine. His chemo treatments do not seem to be a problem. He has had little
reaction to them and is comfortable. He stood for election for VEDGC and was
successful. Way to go David!
Judi Barnhart (wife
of Vernon Barnhart, GR of Michigan): Judy is looking forward to the surgery as
right now she is living on Advil for the pain. Her surgery will be on May 21, 2007. I will keep
you posted on her recovery. Judy and I
will not be able to make the 2007 Indiana Grand Commandery as Judy will be
having Knee Replacement Surgery in May and I am trying to save up some time so
that I can be at home to take care of her. Vern Barnhart
Fred Klink: Grand Council Organist,
while in Columbus,
Ohio had a grand mal seizure; he had surgery
on the right side of his brain and is recovering. This could have great effect on his motor
skills. He will not be driving for the next three months. Let’s keep all these friends in our prayers.
Bob Childers, GPE
is not doing very well. Please remember him in your prayers.

Easter Trip
The trip
began this year with the group departing from the Marriott Hotel at 21st
and Shadeland. The hotel has graciously
allowed us the convenience of loading the bus and parking our cars in their
parking lot. We left the hotel with the
destination of New Jersey
as our first and second night. We arose
the next morning and traveled to Philadelphia,
Pennsylvania. There we had a guided walking tour of the
historic district of Philadelphia. Our
tour guide Brian was the best ever, and we learned a lot of different views on
just exactly what took place when our Constitution and Declaration of Freedom
was being framed. We also viewed the Liberty Bell, Constitution Hall and the
building where the Constitution of the United States was written and other
points of interest.
The
afternoon of the first day we toured Pennsylvania’s
Grand Lodge. Every visitor to Philadelphia should visit
this building. It is really a treat to
view the work of volunteer labor. The
first Grand Lodge building burned and the present one was built with members of
the Lodges of Pennsylvania supplying the labor.
The love of their work shows all throughout the building. We also learnt that the central vacuum was
invented in the 1890’s when this built and was installed into it.
The
second day we traveled to Hershey,
Pennsylvania to visit the
Chocolate factory. The entire group
enjoyed this stop. The weather was cold
and it was snowing, but the chocolate factor soothed the savage beast in all of
us. We took a short tour of the older
part of Hershey to see the unique street lamps, which are in the shape of
Hershey Kisses. One will have the
wrapper on with the tag on, and the next one is an unwrapped kiss. This year is the 100th birthday
of the Hershey Kiss.
We left
Hershey and traveled on to Washington
DC and the Hotel Washington. We checked in and got a couple hours of rest
and then took the Metro over to Arlington
VA for a State Dinner at the
Orleans House.
Saturday
morning was a free time for the Sir Knights and their Ladies. We left at 11:15 AM for the
Arlington National
Cemetery to take a tour
of the cemetery and to place a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns. Due to the inclement weather, Richard
Baldwin the Grand Master was unable to take part in the ceremony and S K Rodney
Mann REGC had three Sir Knights from Indiana, Clarence Harter, Harold Landers,
and William Davis assist him in the laying of the wreath. Everyone should see this ceremony and the
reverence and respect that the Old Guard shows.
It truly is a soul touching rite.
On Easter
Sunday morning we all had coffee and doughnuts provided by the Grand
Encampment, and then departed for the George Washington National Masonic
Memorial in Alexandria
VA.
Again due to the weather the Sunrise Service was held inside, and
everyone appreciated that, as it gets very cold on the top of Shooters Hill.
When we
got back to the Hotel Washington we got our luggage and loaded the bus and by 9:15 AM we were on our way back to Indiana. We arrived in
Indianapolis at 10:30 PM.
We were tired but happy to be back.
In the five days that we were gone, we had a few mishaps, a lot of fun,
good food, and best of all the companionship of wonderful people. On our tours that were taken we had some of
the best guides ever, and they made the trip worthwhile. We extend an invitation
to all Sir Knights and Ladies to come join us next year. Irvin L. Bitting, KCT PGC, & Lady Doris,
Co-Chairman of the Annual Easter Trip
